The opportunity We are seeking a Senior Corporate Counsel – Privacy and Regulatory to join Bupa APAC.
The purpose of this role is to help people live longer, healthier, happier lives and make a better world through delivering on Bupa's ambition to become the world's most customer-centric healthcare company.
This role will help achieve Bupa's ambition by overseeing and providing strategic, commercially focused legal advice to Bupa APAC.
Specifically, the role is for a senior lawyer who will be responsible for managing, overseeing and undertaking legal work in respect of privacy matters across the APAC business and regulatory matters across regulated Bupa APAC businesses.
This is a permanent full-time role based in Melbourne with hybrid working arrangements.
How will you make an impact? Key responsibilities include: Managing, overseeing and providing high quality, reliable and comprehensive legal advice to the leaders, managers and executives in the Bupa APAC Market Unit in respect of Privacy and Regulatory matters.
This aspect of the role includes advice on the interpretation and application of industry specific laws.
Identifying and reporting on upcoming changes to law and regulation and the relevant impacts on the business, including ensuring change readiness in respect of any privacy law reform in Australia.
Providing support on the maintenance of formal relationships between Bupa APAC businesses and the relevant regulators, including drafting of regulatory correspondence.
Ensuring the provision of highest quality, reliable and comprehensive legal advice to each of the Leadership Teams and the APAC Market Unit Executive Team on privacy and regulatory matters.
Exploring and adopting legal process management initiatives to optimise the provision of legal services to the business.
Developing relationships and collaborating within Bupa APAC and Bupa global legal team to deliver outcomes for the business.
What do I need? Minimum 10+ years relevant post admission experience in-house or in private practice.
A strong understanding and prior experience in privacy law.
A strong regulatory background is desirable.
Technology and security experience is preferred, but not essential.
Past experience with compliance and risk management is preferred, but not essential.
Strong communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
Commercial acumen with the ability to provide pragmatic legal advice.
Healthcare/ health insurance regulatory experience is not essential.
Law degree from an Australian or international university.
A current relevant practising certificate in a state Supreme Court and the High Court of Australia.
