The team
The Licensing team has primary responsibility for ASIC's assessment of applications relating to financial services licences, consumer credit licences, company, and self-managed superannuation fund services, and auditor applications. The Licensing team focuses on ensuring licences are granted by ASIC only to those who meet the necessary statutory requirements. The team also works closely with other ASIC teams to assist them in effectively carrying out their regulatory roles in relation to monitoring and supervision, enforcement, and reform issues relevant to our licensing function.
The role
As a Senior Manager, you will be accountable for:
Leading and managing teams to assess applications for Australian financial services licences, credit licences and applications for auditor related registrations. This includes proactive engagement across ASIC (including other Regulatory & Supervision teams, the Enforcement and Compliance function and intelligence function) to harness insights from ASIC's regulatory intelligence.
Leading, coaching and developing a large multi-disciplinary team, including managing workflow, ensuring the team's performance meets key performance indicators, overseeing complex applications and maintaining appropriate standards for assessments.
Identifying new ways to utilise data to deliver priorities, including effective collection, management, analysis, and communication of insights from data.
Overseeing, coordinating, and providing strategic direction, industry knowledge and technical expertise to support ASIC's licensing, compliance and deterrence outcomes.
Supporting the implementation of policy and law reform (either through providing subject matter expertise to law reform led by our Regulatory Reform and Implementation team or Licensing-led reform), including developing new guidance, training, systems, and processes.
Maintaining knowledge of ASIC's regulatory framework and toolkit, relevant legislative and reporting requirements, domestic and international developments, and best industry practice models.
Working collaboratively with the Senior Executive Leader and other Senior Managers and Senior Specialists in establishing meaningful and effective stakeholder engagement and relationships across ASIC.
Overseeing identification of trends, patterns and relationships from multiple data points.
Developing and implementing policies, procedures and continuous improvement initiatives that advance the team's objectives.
Representing the team at various internal and external forums and facilitating constructive engagement of external stakeholders.
About you
A relevant tertiary qualification. External legal practice experience would be advantageous.
A deep understanding of the legislation relevant to ASIC's regulatory remit and strategic objectives.
Experience or the ability to quickly acquire knowledge of leading a large team in a high-volume environment, providing strategic direction, and coaching for high performance.
Leading, coaching, and supporting team members, to foster professional development and learning initiatives to encourage high team performance.
Strong strategic thinking, analytical, investigative and research skills, including data analysis and presentation.
Highly developed conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills as well as drawing reasoned inferences from quantitative and qualitative data, and to reach robust and practical conclusions.
Provide strategic and analytical thinking, identifying emerging trends and risk areas and research skills, including data analysis and presentation.
A strong understanding of the benefits in developing strategic relationships that partner to ensure the effective use of all available data and information opportunities.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to prepare concise/succinct and accurate business reporting to be presented to Executive and Commission level, strong attention to detail in all technical matters and a continuous improvement approach to process and practice.
