Tasks/responsibilities of the position: Lead, manage, and coordinate a veterinary team, fostering a high-performing and collaborative environment.
Think strategically to develop and implement long-term plans, addressing complex biosecurity challenges.
Communicate with domestic and international stakeholders, representing the department in relevant forums and conveying complex technical information clearly.
Provide expert advice on the importation of live animals, ensuring compliance with Australian and international regulations.
Build team capabilities through training, mentoring, and support, ensuring professional qualifications and expertise are maintained.
Minimum requirements: You must be an Australian citizen.
Baseline Vetting security clearance, or the ability to obtain and maintain clearance at this level.
A veterinary degree recognised in Australia and eligibility for registration with the relevant state/territory veterinary board.
You must hold and maintain a valid Australian motor vehicle drivers' licence.
What we are looking for: Knowledge in: Australia's animal health and biosecurity systems.
Animal pests and diseases impacting Australia's trade in animals and animal products.
Financial and budget management.
Legislative frameworks, government decision-making, and regulation.
Skills and capabilities required: Leading and managing teams with competing priorities.
Working with horses, cats, dogs, or poultry (highly valued).
Effectively communicating with stakeholders, providing technical advice on complex and sensitive issues.
Setting priorities and delivering projects within agreed timelines and quality standards.
Managing administrative and general government responsibilities.
Please note: The role(s) may involve a combination of outdoor and office-based work.
The position will require you to be available outside standard hours.
You will be required to wear appropriate protective personal equipment and clothing to comply with departmental Work Health & Safety policies and procedures.
The role will involve some interstate and intrastate travel.
Information session: We will be holding an online information session on the afternoon of XXXX (timing will be confirmed upon registration) where there will be a presentation on the role and an opportunity to ask questions.
Staff with the relevant experience will be online to answer questions about the role.
