Telemetry Technician 6102 Med/Surg - (PT) Reporting to the Unit Manager, the Telemetry Technician (TT) provides continuous surveillance of monitor tracings on the central console located in the telemetry unit. The Telemetry Technician obtains a rhythm strip and correctly identifies and reports any changes to the charge nurse immediately. If acting as HUC, performs secretarial and receptionist duties associated with the patient care unit while serving as a focal communication source at the nurses station. Maintains patient records, transcribes physician orders, assists in coordination of patient location, and maintains order at the nursing station. Job Specific: Assigns a telemetry monitor to each new patient and includes the patient's name and date of birth following hospital policy for application and documentation. Maintains constant surveillance of monitors. Runs initial and routine rhythm strips according to hospital policy. Evaluates, interprets, and documents in the medical record rhythms obtained. Reports changes and/or concerns to the charge nurse or primary nurse on a timely basis. Maintains the telemetry flow sheet at the nursing station followed by placement in the medical record. Acts as receptionist by greeting staff, ancillary services, physicians, and the public and offers assistance as appropriate. Answers telephone and patient intercom promptly and courteously conveys messages accurately and appropriately in a timely manner. Handles patient medical information with emphasis on patient rights, confidentiality, and HIPAA compliance. Maintains cleanliness and order at the nursing station. Facilitates maintenance of equipment by completing maintenance requests. Demonstrates Service Excellence Initiatives by presenting a positive first impression, anticipates customer needs, and is actively involved in the role of Team Player. Complies with employee health requirements. Follows Universal Precautions. Works in a manner that promotes safety, adhering to dress code policy. If assigned to HUC duties: Transcribes physician orders in a timely manner, assuring accuracy and compliance with current policies and procedures. Maintains charts with adequate forms, verifying all are labeled correctly and contain correct patient information prior to placing in the chart. Orders supplies/forms based on unit needs in a cost-effective manner. Facilitates admissions, transfers, and discharges according to charge nurse, physician, and discharge planner instructions. Hospital: Adheres to organization-wide and other applicable policies and procedures. Day-to-day performance complies with the hospital's Service Excellence Behavioral Expectations.
