Job type: Ongoing - Full Time Organisation: Department of Transport and Planning Reference: 5010 About the Role The Traffic Engineer / Officer role sits within the Movement & Safety team within the Greater Metro Branch of Metro Transport Division.
This team plays a critical role in collaborating with a range of internal and external stakeholders (including the community) to better understand transport network problems and determine solutions that also align with Safe System principles and Movement & Place aspirations.
This includes making decisions with understanding and alignment with broader transport network objectives and working with internal partners to help guide project pipeline priorities.
The role of Traffic Engineer / Officer will provide sound advice to internal and external customers on complex matters relating to road safety, traffic, developer funded/external projects, non-road infrastructure works and road design standards while promoting a culture of innovation.
Understanding and contributing to our key culture focus areas and being aware of one's own behaviours and impact to support a constructive way of working for individuals and teams.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on various and moderately complex transport and safety matters under broad supervision and coordinate internal teams where required.
Work with key internal and external stakeholders to develop solutions to moderately complex transport and safety problems while aligning with key strategic objectives.
Understanding community and stakeholder needs to determine matters of importance and prioritise effort and workload accordingly to meet agreed timeframes and quality standards.
Coordinate the development and delivery of network safety and operational improvements in accordance with relevant road safety standards and Do T procurement systems.
Interpret standards and guidelines and apply problem solving approaches and judgment in response to transport and safety matters under broad supervision while challenging traditional thinking where appropriate.
Key Selection Criteria To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will demonstrate a constructive work culture by actively seeking feedback and applying it, while effectively planning and managing traffic and transport tasks to meet deadlines.
They will work closely with stakeholders and the community to develop solutions for road safety and travel improvements that align with organizational goals, using clear and tailored communication.
Additionally, they will make decisions under broad supervision, applying relevant laws and standards, addressing safety trends, and innovating to improve transportation outcomes.
Qualifications and Experience Mandatory Experience relevant to the capabilities of the role, including industry experience with relevant experience in Traffic Engineering and/or Road Safety related areas.
Appropriate tertiary qualifications in a relevant or a related discipline.
